WELLINGTON, Florida, Aug. 11, 2015–The 2016 Global Dressage Festival will include a top rated CDI5*, two CDI4*s, three World Cup events and a revamped Nations Cup beginning Jan. 14 and running to April 2.
The tentative schedule, still to be approved by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI), adds a CDI4* in place of a World Cup qualifier because of the shortened World Cup with the Final scheduled for Gothenburg, Sweden March 23-28, several weeks earlier than most years.
The Global Dressage Festival has become a major fixture on the world’s dressage calendar with total prize money approaching $700,000 (€634,000) and a growing European presence that has made it the primary center of dressage in the Western Hemisphere.
The tentative schedule:
Jan. 14-17 – CDI-W World Cup
Jan. 28-21 – CDI-W World Cup
Feb. 11-14 – CDI5*
Feb. 25-28 – CDI-W World Cup
Mar. 10-13 – Palm Beach Dressage Derby CDI4*
Mar. 17-20 – CDI4*
Mar. 10-Apr. 2 – CDIO3* Nations Cup
National competitions will be held in conjunction with the CDIs as well as during weeks when no CDI is scheduled.
Changes to the Nations Cup under consideration to be proposed to the FEI is to have teams that can choose between completely Grand Prix (maximum of four with three scores to count), or as many as three Small Tour combinations but every team must include at least one Grand Prix horse.
This is considered the next step in raising the level of championship dressage in the Americas. The move from all Small Tour teams at the Pan American Games held once every four years was introduced at Global over the past three years of the Nations Cup.
