SYDNEY, Sept. 17, 2015–New Zealand will host the Pacific League World Cup Final for 2016/17 for the first time in almost two decades.
The national federations of Australia and New Zealand agreed to Feilding on the North Island as the venue for the Final to qualify the single combination from the Pacific League for the annual global championship.
The Final will be held in conjunction with the N.Z. championships Feb. 2-4, 2017.
The World Cup Final in 2017 will be in Omaha, Nebraska in the heartland of the United States.
The Pacific League is the only one of the four World Cup geographic divisions–the others are Central Europe, Western Europe and North America–to still hold a league final.
New Zealand has not hosted the league Final since 1998 although the rules provide for it to be held there once every three years. The annual finals have been held in Australia since 1998.
“New Zealand is excited to be granted the rights to host the Pacific League World Cup Dressage Final for the first time since January 1998,” said Vicki Glynn, CEO of Equestrian Sports NZ.
“The possibility to host the Final in NZ after nearly two decades will be a fantastic opportunity for the increasing numbers of New Zealand-based Grand Prix riders to experience the thrill of competing in a FEI Pacific League World Cup Final.”
